Had an opportunity to shoot with my friend Dom (@cinecosu) last week based on some concept art that we found on Facebook one day. Nothing too intense, lowkey casual. Sounds like an easy shoot to me!
Mind you, we did not purchase real cigarettes for this shoot. We went for the route of playing with effects in Photoshop so no one has to risk a lung. We just admired the aesthetic of the art, that we went to make a rendition of our own.
Simple light set up for this shoot. One main light of to the side of the subject while I slaved my speedlite with a gel to color the back. (See diagram below).
I made it a goal not to use too much smoke effects in the post-production for these photos. With adding effects to my cosplay photos and this being a more casual shoot, I decided to make it more realistic and (I hate using this word, but there's no other replacement) "aesthetic."
Below is the full gallery of the shoot! Let me know what you think. Have you ever dealt with real cigarettes during a shoot? Did you enjoy it or not? What are some pros and cons if so?
